Used graphic application:
Adobe Photoshop 7.0
When moving the cursor above the image on the left - the image before the processing appears.
The photo used in this tutorial comes from the site: www.buy-photo.eu
This is the second part of the “Pimp my face” course, in which we’ll take up lips make-up, that is lips colouring.
In this lesson you’ll learn:
So, let’s get to work :)
1. Open the Photoshop program.
2. Open the photo purposed to processing.
File » Open or Ctrl + O
...or by double clicking the left mouse button on the dark grey application background.
3. Choose Lasso Tool (Lasso)
L from the toolbox.
The Feather property from its property menu set to 2 pix. It will make the selection line smoother, less stepped.
Outline the lips with one stroke. It don’t have to be perfect, We’ll correct it later.
Unfortunately, in that picture, the lips are parted. So we selected the teeth too but we don’t want to colour them. We have to remove the selection from the lips. For that purpose, in the tool property menu click the Subtract from selection icon (the third form left).
If the lips are closed, move to the fourth step at once.
Now, still using lasso tool , outline the teeth and oral cavity (everything besides lips). As we see, the program removed this fragment from the selection:
4. Now we’ll create the layer of adjustment for lips. We’ll use it to change the lips colour.
In the layers bookmark - click the small icon at the bottom of the panel - Create new fill or adjustment layer - preview. In a menu that appears choose: Color Balance.
Layer can be created in another way too - by choosing from the program menu: Layer » New adjustment layer » Color Balance.
The window of colour balance opens:
By moving sliders in an appropriate direction we are causing lips colour change. Choice of lips colour - it depends on your fantasy only. Move the sliders in all three options (although it is not necessary): Shadows, Midtones and Highlights (field of selection at the bottom of the filter window). When the effect is satisfactory - click OK.
5. After changing lips colour we can observe some shortcomings arose while its outlining. They are better visible now. It’s time to correct it. As we use the adjustment layer - it won’t be a problem.
Pay attention to the new layer appearance in the Layers bookmark. There are two miniatures on it:
The right is a mask miniature - it means the area on the original picture which is processed. This area is marked with white colour on the miniature. The area that is not modified is marked black.
So let’s do something to make the skin and teeth were in the white area and lips in the white one. We’ll use brush and two colours: black and white of course. They should be implicitly set (at the moment of adjustment layer creation) in the colour sampler in the toolbox.
Choose the Brush Tool
(B) from the toolbox. Paint black the areas of skin and oral cavity that were tinted. Paint white the lips parts that weren’t coloured despite it should (but weren’t selected). Active colour is the one that is on the top of colour sampler. You can switch it using the small bended arrow next to the square of colour sampler or by pressing the X key.
All these operations are performed on the adjustment layer (the one with these icons).
6. If the lips contour is unnatural - lips looks like they were pasted on - we can soften that effect. We’ll do the trick with blur filter.
Choose: Filter » Blur » Gaussian Blur from the main menu. In the property window set the radius property to about 1% and click OK.
That’s how we obtained a small blur, that will make lips looks more natural.
That’s it and that’s the final effect:
If you think that the effect is too intense - you can reduce opacity of adjustment layer. For that purpose move the Opacity slider in the layer panel to the left.
This is the picture with opacity set to 60%:
In the next part of the course we’ll go for eyes, more precisely - false eyelashes.
